It is entirely possible to dance every night of the week in and around Wellington and the Lower North Island. From sequence dancing to Argentine Tango there is almost always something on somewhere. The trick is finding it as most group have a small to non-existant marketing budget – and because of the popularity of dances they are rarely advertised widely.
This is the list that I have currently – I plan to revise and add to it as I find out more information. If you are aware of regular dances which welcome newcomers please get in contact and I will add the details.
Sequence and Old Time Dances
There are regular, low costs dances all across the region including Otaki, Kapiti, Masterton, central Wellington and pretty much everywhere in between. Dances are predominantly modern and classical sequence dances but some clubs seem to include a few ballroom or New Vogues dances as well. For a very long list of contacts, and dance times and dates check out the New Zealand Modern and Classical Sequence Society
Rock and Roll Clubs
There are a number of Rock and Roll clubs in the Wellington region – they all run both beginners and more advanced classes as well as regular dances. Clubs tend to be cheaper than the equivalent classes in dance studios. Local clubs include
