5 Reasons Dance Classes are Better Than a Gym Membership

Many people – particulary after they ate and drank too much at Christmas will decide to join a gym in the New Year. Maybe they even intend to go to the gym more than a few times. Few will though – that’s why gym’s make such good money out of those annual memberships – all those hundreds of dollars and most people don’t make it past February!

Dance classes are a much better idea though – and far more likely to see you dancing still at the end of the year. Why? Quite simple – gym’s are all about hard work and little to no social interaction – you have no time to meet the person next to you while you are on the treadmilll!

So here are my top 5 reasonsĀ  why dance classes are better than gym memberships:

  1. Dance classes are far more varied – this is not only less boring – but its better for your body, your body will get used to any routine and gain less benefit from it – a dance class will mix up to the benefit of your body and your brain;
  2. Dance classes are actually social – you get to meet people and even converse not just clap along with the aerobics instructor!
  3. Dance classes mean you don’t have to wear heavy, uncomfortable gym shoes: depending on the dance style you chose you get to wear cute ballet slippers, elegant dance shoes or even nothing at all.
  4. Dance classes teach you an actual skill that you can use down the pub the next time the music is on – and give your self a work out while you thought you were just having fun!
  5. Dance classes rarely cause injuries – for all the warm up and cool down routines at the gym – I have far more torn muscles in the gym than inĀ  the dance floor.
